(DALLAS-FT.WORTH, TX) When it comes to being on the radio, financial planner Jim Poe knew he wanted to be different. Poe is CEO and Founder of Texas Retirement Specialists, a DFW financial planning firm. When he launched Found Money Radio radio program on WBAP he even told station management of his plans to have a different on-air sound. The problem with financial radio programs, according to Poe, is that they all sounded alike. He added, “In Dallas-Ft. Worth there are some very bright financial professionals on the air. But the majority of them are pitching products. When we started Found Money Radio, it was my goal to create a program that was information driven and not just a pitch for a specific financial product. We wanted to be a place that everyone could come for information to help guide them to a better retirement.”
Fast forward to today and Poe says he’s happy with his strategic decision on the radio program. Found Money Radio is one of the most listened to financial radio programs in Dallas-Ft. Worth, reaching a mass audience on two of DFW’s most listened to talk radio stations, WBAP and KRLD. According to Found Money Radio co-host Pete Thomson, Jim Poe’s decision to create a unique and information-based program has fueled the program’s success. Thomson said, “We regularly hear from listeners who say they tune in every week and appreciate the content they hear on Found Money Radio. One of our most popular segments is Jim’s “News Desk” feature at the beginning of every program.” The News Desk Report consists of financial and retirement headlines delivered with Poe’s unique interpretation and humor.”
Found Money Radio also features guests for discussions on a wide variety of topics. The topics include Social Security, consumer issues, estate and tax planning. Poe said, “Our interview features are a great opportunity to introduce our strategic partners who are experts in specific areas that compliment our services at Texas Retirement Specialists. We also interview other people who have information of interest to retirees.”
Co-host Pete Thomson compares his role to that of the late Ed McMahon on The Tonight Show. Thomson said, “My role is being Jim’s presenter. I introduce the segments and keep the program moving. But Jim is the star of the show. His financial knowledge and experience makes our content so interesting and compelling. Every week I’m personally learning something just from being on the air with Jim. He’s amazing.”
Thomson added that he believes that the program is resonating with listeners because it’s genuine. He added, “When you listen to Found Money Radio you feel like you’re listening to a conversation around the kitchen table with good friends who want to help you.” Poe added, “Regardless of whether a listener ever calls us to be their financial planner, we want to help them to have the best retirement possible.”
Found Money Radio is sponsored by Texas Retirement Specialists, with offices in Dallas and Ft. Worth. It is broadcast Saturdays at 10 AM on KRLD and 2 PM on WBAP Radio. Found Money Radio is produced by McQ Media, Dallas, Texas.
